Project Role and Scope of Work
IH served as the prime consultant for this project. This special inspection project entails the inspection of 24 State owned fracture critical bridges. The scope of the field inspection work was to perform hands on inspection of all fracture critical members of each bridge included non-destructive testing of the welded connections of the FCM members of each bridge in areas where flaws and cracks in the welds are suspected or anticipated. MPT for each bridge required close coordination with NJDOT traffic operations and police traffic protection was utilized as required by some of the municipalities. Inspection access equipment such as UB60, Barges with mounted Bucket Trucks 45’ and 60’ units were also utilized throughout the project. The types of bridges inspected were steel trusses, bridges with pin and hanger connections, steel box girder pier caps and cross girders, and steel through girders. The bridges were spanning over waterways, highways, local roads and railroads. Priority repair letters E, P1, and P2 were submitted to NJDOT to report field observed defects and all findings were documented in the reports as per the scope of work set forth by NJDOT.
