Project Role and Scope of Work

IH provided construction inspection services for this $60 million contract for repair work on the Gowanus Expressway in Brooklyn, New York.

The project included the inspection of construction work between 16th Ave and 48th Street for the repair and replacement of structural steel superstructure, cleaning and painting of structural steel that was replaced, replacement of bridge bearings, lubrication of existing bearings to remain, cleaning and painting of structural steel from bent 29 to bent 78, replacement and resealing of bridge deck joints in both directions, and operation of the Bus/HOV lane from Verrazano-Narrows Bridge to the Hugh Cary Tunnel and on the Prospect Expressway from 5th Ave to the Hugh Cary Tunnel, with the utilization of a movable barrier transfer machine for switching lanes during peak hour traffic.
