Project Role and Scope of Work

IH served as sub-consultant to Ammann & Whitney for the condition investigation and design of structural repairs for Throgs Neck Bridge (TN-85). This suspension bridge carries six lanes of traffic over the East River, where it meets the Long Island Sound.

Our overall scope of work included investigating the suspended span superstructure and preliminary and final design for the structural steel repairs, painting and catwalk replacement.

Structural Engineering

IH prepared construction plans for the suspended span superstructure repairs. IH identified and developed 19 different repair types, which were shown on 23 construction contract plan sheets. Repairs included numerous stringer repairs, batten plate repair/replacement, loose bolt replacement with high strength bolts, etc.
