Lower Manhattan, New York, NY
NYSDOT, AECOM
2005 - 2010
IH provided construction services on this $55 Million fast-tracked highway project in lower Manhattan which consisted of the reconstruction of the Route 9A, Battery Place, West Street, and Battery Place Underpass, that sustained damages hauling the debris from the World Trade Center site. Landscape improvements consisted of constructing a tree-lined promenade with decorative granite and bluestone pavers to create a park-like setting.
This project was located in one of the busiest and most heavily traveled areas in NYC, both vehicular and pedestrian. The construction scope of work included excavations, sewer reconstruction, water main relocation, telephone, gas, electric, curb, sidewalk, grading, paving, signs, reinforced concrete, traffic signals, pavement markings, traffic control, etc. Part of the purpose of this project was to add at-grade pedestrian-friendly, aesthetic features that serve to enhance the neighborhood redevelopment and economic recovery in lower Manhattan. Construction was subject to special lower Manhattan environmental performance commitments, including air quality, noise, cultural/historic, circulation/access, and public outreach. This project was completed on time and within budget.
