IH provided construction services on this $200 million project in the City of Newark in a highly urban environment. The scope of work consisted of constructing a subway tunnel, at grade track, and roadways on the local streets between Penn Station and Broad Street Stations in Newark, NJ.
This project was coordinated with the relocation of McCarter Highway to the east to make way for the new subway extension. The project scope included: construction of a 900-foot long cut and cover tunnel section, reconstruction of local roadways for the “at grade” section, major utility relocation including 6, 8, 12, and 16-inch water mains, storm and sanitary sewer construction, sanitary sewer cured in place linings, gas main relocation, underground telephone relocation, underground electric relocation, traffic signals.
IH performed a review of plans and technical/general provisions, constructability reviews, cost estimating, change orders, and claims reviews. This highly urban environment called for a significant community outreach program due to the many businesses, residences, and community block associations in the area. This project was completed on time and within budget.
