Project Role and Scope of Work

IH served as a sub-consultant to Parsons Brinkerhoff (currently WSP) for the widening of the Expressway’s westbound outside lane, between the Garden State Parkway and Route 73. The length of the project was 24.1 miles or approximately half the length of the Expressway. The work under the widening project included bridge widenings, box culvert extensions, installation of overhead sign structures, and installation of highway lighting at interchanges. Additionally, various Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) components were incorporated along the Expressway, including Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) Cameras, EZ-Pass Tag Readers, and Overhead Dynamic Message signs.

Structural Engineering

IH's structural scope of work included preliminary and final design services for three cantilever sign support structures, five dynamic message sign support structures, and headwall design for a large existing corrugated steel culvert pipe.

IH also prepared construction plans, supplementary specifications, engineer’s cost estimate, and computed design loads for the drilled shaft foundations.
